This is a joint blog shared by 2 lazy pple - Ciping & Wilbur, who wishes to use each other to maintain the blog. Sadly, Ciping is the more inactive one and Wilbur does most of the work in the end. Feel free to post comments on the tag-board, it feels good to know pple are actually reading and responding to your posts. It gives motivation to write more.
In view of the very closely impending O'lvls, I'll try to offer a silver lining just before the exams itself on this blog.
If you have not been studying ss, and have only a day left to study, and are wondering - which chapters to study - since one can only study so much within 24 hours, the following may be of some use.
In fact, if you're wondering what topics to focus on, and the only thing that you've heard so far is Switzerland. You may want to hear my humble opinion.
Altogether, there're 6 themes - 13 chapters - to study.
Theme 1:
1. Merger & serperation (SEQ 02)
Theme 2:
2. Contries divided (SBQ 02 & SEQ 03)
3. Switzerland (not tested)
Theme 3:
4. Conflicts among countries (SBQ 03)
5. Diplomacy & deterrence (not tested)
Theme 4:
6. S'pore's industrial dev (not tested)
7. Japan's industrial dev (not tested)
8. Education & health (not tested)
9. People (not tested)
10. Housing (SEQ 02)
11. Good governance (SEQ 03)
Theme 5:
12. Sustaining S'pore's dev (SEQ 03)
Theme 6:
13. Venice (SEQ 02)
Ok. Firstly, it's a trend, for the past 2 years at least, that, ALL questions, including SBQ, come from different themes. So expect the same from this year. Since there are 6 themes, you might realise that you only need to 4 themes to be safe. And since theme 4 is such a long theme, you'll save A LOT of studying time if you skip it totally, which I wouldn't recommend though. Coz a qn would almost definitely come out from theme 4.
6 themes. 4 themes tested in 02. I notice that they try not to repeat themes. Since they tested the other 2 themes in '03. But they wouldn't do that again, because if they did, then Venice and Merger would have to come out again.
So far, they have only repeated a chapter once - countries divided. However, it was in SBQ and SEQ, different sections.
Now, for the most crucial and important part. My conlcusion / predictions, just like a football pundit, (heh i like doing this, might charge a fee next time though, if I get it correct :D).
Assuming that they DO NOT repeat topics for SEQ, (2 years of papers do not really tell much) most probable line up:
- Switzerland
- Diplomacy and deterrence
- any topic from theme 4, though suspected to be something on industrial dev
Note that though Switzerland is most probably to come out, you are screwed if it comes out for SBQ and you concentrate all your efforsts on Switzerland. Also note that since ALMOST ALL schools predict SWitzerland would come out, IF it DOES come out, multitudes of people would be doing it, and a high level essay might just be hard to achieve.
2nd most prob line up:
- Conflicts among countries
- Education / People (any1 from theme 4)
- Venice (its a huge topic so many different qns can be made on it)
The above is merely my predictions. Predictions from a first-timer =). Do not expect it to be 100% accurate if not you might just qualify for the direct opposite equivalent of MENSA.
A mixture of the 1st and 2nd line-up should occur though, for example - switz, conflicts & an1 frm theme 4. So you can make your own possible combinations. Just note that they would be of different themes.
