Hey pple...

This is a joint blog shared by 2 lazy pple - Ciping & Wilbur, who wishes to use each other to maintain the blog. Sadly, Ciping is the more inactive one and Wilbur does most of the work in the end. Feel free to post comments on the tag-board, it feels good to know pple are actually reading and responding to your posts. It gives motivation to write more.

< How I celebrated National Day >

Normally, in an act of patroitism, one would stay at home to watch NDP. If you realized, there're actually many other ways to celebrate Singapore's birthday. For example, if you live in the heartlands, you can go for the National Day Dinner organized by your MPs, in a painfully obvious ploy to gain political support, which they deny, obviously.

Or else, you can celebrate the nation's birthday in over 5 areas this year (I think), namely, the Padang (of course), Tampines, Marina, Yishun and Jurong East? And then, if you're crazy (or rich) enough, and couldn't get your hands on the seemingly rare, so sought-after and prized NDP tickets (although I don't understand why you can't just by those tickets on e-bay since you're so rich, maybe rich but stupid), you can stay in a hotel overlooking the padang, like the swissotel (I think), and enjoy the good view of the parade and 'magnificent' fireworks in the comfort of your hotel room.

So you see, there're actually many ways to celebrate National Day. But ask anyone along the streets how they would do it, they'll just tell you:

"Sit at home and watch NDP lor"
if they havn't got tickets

"Go Padang watch NDP lor"
if they have tickets

"oh.. I'll wear my red boxers"
If he's trying to be innovative

Ahh.. how patrotic our citizens are.

How did I celebrate my National Day? Well, I planned to maybe.. watch the National Day Parade on TV. But just before I could catch a minute of it, Wilfred called and rudely reminded me, "Wei you coming or not? You betta come ar.. I bet you're still at home. Everyone else is here except you"

And so, I went offline, changed, and proceeded to the VJ basketball court, the shortest (and smartest) way I know how now - climbing the side gate.

Most of them looked exactly the same, except Mok, who has long hair now and looks more and more like an ah beng. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, how did I celebrate my National Day.

So you see, the very first patriotic thing I did was to celebrate the friendship I gained here in Singapore, by playing the (soon to be) National sport - Basketball. (Yes I'm sure basketball will be our national sport in our future. It just makes so much more sense than soccer :P) Anyway, in the midst of our basketball game, we saw a chinook flying with the Singapore flag, probably to the Padang. And then, we did another patriotic act by staring at the flag.. and remembering our National Day went for our school, where the National flag just dropped down halfway during flag rising. Now that might be regarded as a really bad omen, or inauspicious thing, but think of it this way, everyone has to fall before he gets up stronger, including the country. So well, you can think of it as a good indication now. :D

So I was wondering.. what if the national flag dropped halfway while flying on the chinook? Then I realised it would probably never ever happen in a million years. And if it did, they'll put the blame on M********(a certain country with name starting with M). Note that by a million years time, we would have sufficient military firepower to fight M******* and win, in 1 day, and therefore, can use it as an excuse to conquer them. So I conclude, M******* will be part of Singapore when she is 1,000,040 years and 1 day old. Ahh.. I'll be famous 1 million years later man, for being a prophetic man. But that wouldn't matter, coz I won't be on Earth no more.

So we played for quite a few hours. And I reached home at 9. Just when I thought I could get on with my patriotic act of watching NDP, I realised that NDP was over. So, I did the next best thing I could by watching CNA's highlights of National Day.

Something to note. At 10.30, there was this programme which showed videos of some Singaporeans who made a 1 minute video about Singapore. The 1st was a teacher from ACS junior school (i think - the primary 1 la), and next was a group of 4 sec 1 chung cheng high (main) girls. Channel News Asia was interviewing them at first, and based on the comments, I was half excited to see the video. And then, when it came, I realised that their videos could not beat our very own National Day video.

I think our iComm should have taken part in this competition.
